Name & Hometown:
Kristi Warrington. I was raised in, and came back to Garden City, Michigan.
Who or what inspired you to be a Yoga Instructor:
Two important people in my life have inspired me, one of them being my mother. When I was young, my mother introduced me to yoga. We would practice along side of each other following Rodney Yee on VHS tapes. It was nice having something my mother and I did together and how great I felt afterwards. As I got older and had children of my own, I signed my mother and I up for yoga classes at our community center. There we met Vince Spadacini, the other person who inspired me. Vince brought out the love for yoga in me, and I began thinking about sharing that love and looked into teaching.
Describe your style of yoga:
I have been teaching for just over a year and have not established a style as of yet. I have taught Ashtanga, Hatha, Yin & Restorative yoga, and I love them all !
What’s your favorite yoga pose?
Any pose with a good twist ! There are so many benefits, including improving digestion, stimulates circulation & blood flow, and, is a great de-stressor.
What brings you to the mat?
I do it for me. It makes me a better person by allowing space to be creative, a place to relax, to get lost in the movement and the flow of my breath. It heals me – physically, mentally and spiritually.
If you teach, where?
Currently I am temporarily filling in for Vince at the Maplewood Center in Garden City: Monday’s @ 5pm and Friday’s @ 6:30pm. You can also catch me at Yoga Shala in Dearborn Heights, (soon to be Inner Sage) subbing, and working on my own practice.
How has being a member of YAGD helped you in your yoga career?
I have learned so much in the time I have been part of YAGD. Everyone is so nice, & I was welcomed with open arms. It has been great making connections. I love being part of this community, and as a new teacher, I feel very supported. I enjoy being involved and I am currently helping with merchandising within YAGD.
Do you have a favorite yoga story, from your teaching experience?
Being such a new teacher, I do not yet have a favorite story from teaching. I have had great experiences as a student, and I will always be a student for life ❤
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I am married to a wonderful man, Justin, for over 26 years. We have 3 beautiful children, Kaylee, Kimberly and Joshua. And have been blessed with 2 grandchildren: Claire is 1-½ years old, and Caspian is just 1 month !
During the day, I work for E.W. Kitchens where I enjoy being creative as a kitchen designer. During my time off, I love my yoga and meditation practice. I also enjoy being outdoors running, hiking, swimming, kayaking and camping.
