Name & Hometown: Dawn Young Warren Mi
Who or What inspired you to be a Yoga Instructor ? I started my yoga journey with VHS tapes, my favorite being Rodney Yee. After several years of impersonal practice, a friend invited me to an in-person yoga class, and then I was really hooked!
Describe your style of yoga:
My practice and my teaching style has really evolved over the years. Initially, I loved a challenging practice in the Jivamukti and Ashtanga Vinyasa styles.
These days I am drawn to slower and more introspective classes. My teaching style has definitely changed since obtaining my C-IAYT certification. I recently opened a yoga studio in Warren and all classes are therapeutic based offerings, such as Yoga for Menopause, Yoga for Pelvic Health, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Somatics Yoga for Stress & Anxiety. I love sharing the practice with others and helping them discover yoga tools that can help them manage their personal challenges and meet their wellness goals.
What’s your favorite yoga pose ?
Oh…this is a tough one. I would have to say the warrior poses, especially Virabadrasansa 2/ Warrior 2…I love how strong, yet calm I feel in the pose.
What brings you to the mat ?
I love how I feel after I practice; strong, creative, energized. But keeping a personal practice is also important if I am going to be a good steward of yoga and all it emcompasses!

How has being a member of YAGD helped you in your yoga career ?
I used to really enjoy the in person meetings- it was always fun to meet like minded individuals and the guest teacher practice always was delightful- there is so much that can be learned from another teacher. (Due to teaching and work schedules, it has become difficult to visit. I do hope to make it to a meeting soon!)
Do you have a favorite yoga story from your teaching experience ?
My favorite story…while teaching an outdoor yoga practice at a park for a studio picnic, I picked out the perfect spot in an area amongst some beautiful pines. As people were getting settled on their mats, 100s of little tiny baby frogs were hopping all over the grass, on peoples mats, just everywhere. We had to do savasana sitting up!
Is there anything else you would like to add, like family… hobbies… karma yoga… or other professions ?
I also work in the medical field designing workflow and educating physicians and their staff on electronic medical records. Married to my HS sweetheart, two children ( both married) and just welcomed our first grandchild earthside ! I love to travel and experience all that other cultures and countries have to share with us !
