December Meeting on the 7th

Hello fellow members. Just wanted to put a invite out there for all members of YAGD to attend our holiday gathering at my house in Farmington Hills on Dec. 7th. Arrive at 10, we’ll have a short meeting, hand out rewards, and then enjoy the wonderful dishes you bring to share with all. In the past we have had a gift exchange where by if you bring a gift…you take one home…No pressure, strictly on a volunteer basis. I think we have set a limit of $20 on the cost of the gift. This is our time to hand out awards to those members who have made extra effort to support our organization and say farewell to the outgoing board members. ( Of course, as you may know some of us just keep coming back..hahah). Looking forward to seeing you! Char

Betsy Bertolino

Founding Member;

News from Betsy Bertolino, who some of you may remember—she is one of our founding members and taught many of us before she and her husband, Carl moved to Florida, quite a few years ago.   We’ve just learned that Carl had a severe stroke, and died 6 days later, in December.  He was 94, and she is now 91.  They had planned to move to our upper peninsula, where one of their daughters and son-in-law live.  So with the help of her children and some good friends, Betsy is now back in Michigan.  She is “in a Senior Center on a small mountain overlooking the towns of Houghton and Hancock.  There is a river and lift bridge that connects the two towns and it is very beautiful and historic and scenic up here – I also look at ski slopes across the river!  …  I moved up in March, but it has taken me quite a while to really get here and be here – focused and grounded.  Susan and Brian are retired now & live in Baraga, a few miles away and I see them often.”

“I feel so honored to be a Lifetime member of YAGD, and I am so happy that it is still thriving.  You and all the others who keep the organization going are doing a fantastic job.  Love & blessings to You and All.  Namaste’,   Betsy

Betsy’s new address will be posted in our soon to be updated member listing.

Pat Halloran and I attended Chris’s class in the Reviera Court at the DIA on Saturday the 13th. What a great experience. Chris did a great job and the impact of the art all around us was so inspiring!! Here are a couple pictures…

Great turnout for our June Picnic!!

Thanks to all that took the time to join me at my house Sunday the 9th. We managed to have a fun and informative yoga practice, with each participant providing a pose….Always nice to see how someone else presents a pose and to discover new ones for consideration. The food was great and abundant. It’s so nice to meet members we don’t often see and have time to simply chat with others.

I wish I had remembered to get a picture of everyone!! Darn..Did anybody take a picture?? If so please share with me and I will post it here.

Introducing Chela Yoga

ogo

Marlo Ziegler E-RYT200, RCYT began teaching Yoga after completing her RYT200 at YogaChi, Birmingham in 2003 after falling in love with the her first “real” Yoga class in 2001

Marlo, Owner and Founder of Chela Yoga LLC opened its doors in 2012.

Chela Yoga Studio is a Yoga Alliance Accredited School (RYS200) since 2011. Marlo’s original RYT200 certification was in Ashtanga/Vinyasa which she taught and practiced regularly up until a few years ago when her own practiced shifted due to multiple injuries. Her teaching style has since  changed to a more restorative and adaptable Hatha practice focused on personal alignment and “Feel Good” movement.

We are known to most as a community with like minded teachers working on the healing art of Yoga. Meditation, and Pranayama work are the forefront of the classes led at Chela Yoga, where a variety of classes are taught. From Slow Flow Vinyasa, Gentle Hatha, Yin, and Restorative, all classes are design with the students needs in mind and are adapted accordingly in an all inclusive and welcoming setting.

Our Chela Family, students and teachers put a lot of focus into its charitable events, from Adopting a road in Waterford just down the street from its Highland location, to its Community Garden located at Hess Hathaway in Waterford feeding the community through Open Door, to its countless event raising money and goods for such non-profit organizations such as Common Ground (Pontiac), Care House of Oakland County (Pontiac), Affirmations (Ferndale), Detroit Zen Center (Hamtramck) and many more.

Chela Yoga also has a small rental space for local Healers, and Massage therapist to use complete with its own waiting room,salt lamps, a calming atmosphere and a massage table. In the front lobby located in the rear of the building, we have a small retail section housing local hand crafted items from local small businesses, including handmade soaps and beauty products from Ma Belle Lune to Yoga books, mats, towels, blocks, and our very own Chela swag.
